Asparagus
Asparagus,
The bane of my existence.
Christmas and thanksgiving,
Meyer lemons, sliced on top.
The only pleasurable part,
The lemons.
Rubbery, boring,
Stalks.
But the Meyer lemons you see,
Taste good,
Unlike asparagus.

  1. You have some really nice imagery in this poem. I feel your dislike of asparagus through the descriptions. I also enjoyed the stark conversational style it is written in.

  2. I feel the same way about asparagus. Your poem really made me visualize the weird taste and the consistent mushiness.

  3. Now I want to get some Meyer lemons. What are they like, to turn around the "evils" of asparagus?
