Beginning of the School Year Blog

Over this summer break, I read It's Kind of a Funny Story, By Ned Vizzini. This book was amazing. This book is about a boy named Craig, who lives in an apartment with his family in New York city. He has severe depression, and is sent to the mental ward of a hospital after attempting suicide. He struggles with his emotions, and whether his friends are good friends or bad friends. This book has heavy mature themes such as depression, sex and drugs, but the writing is really good.

Another book that I read this summer is Be more Chill, also by Ned Vizzini. This book is about a boy who is very socially awkward and feels terrible about himself, so of course he does the obvious and buys a supercomputing microchip that tells him how to be cool. This book is not very good, but it is absolutely hilarious. It is also very, very, mature. There is a lot of stuff involving girls, so it may be a challenge in terms of themes.  Happy to be back at school, and blogging again!

  1. Those books don't sound like they would appeal to me, but you did describe them very well!
