17/31

continued

Our lives are simple. We hunt, play, and run. We can run faster than any other animal, even a horse. Alpha says this is because we are stronger and braver than horses, and that we all have muscles that horses do not have. I can jump higher than the rest of the pack, but I cannot run as far. I raced white wolf one time, for the distance of five miles. Around the rock that the mountain lions live, and back to the nest. This is an easy sprint for all of us. After about twenty miles of sprinting, I get tired, when the rest of the pack can continue running. But, I can jump from rock to rock across the river easily, whereas even alpha falls short and nearly fell into the water. I can leap seventy-five feet straight across and fifty feet straight up. I am proud of this. It makes my tongue hang out and my tail stick straight up and wag.

There is a town six miles from our cave. They are scared of us. We are as big as their biggest horses, which scream with terror once we are within a mile of the village. I think this is funny, and once I went out by myself, in wolf form, and the horses screamed and screamed and ran around like ants. It was hysterical. I got back to the cave, and there alpha sat, blue eyes glaring, strong and huge and I was very sorry I had scared the horses. He says that the only reason he does not punish me is that I am still a puppy and I should know better and never to do it again.
